Macallan, do gaélico "magh”, que significa pedaço de terra fértil e “ellan”, que significa de St. Fillan, um monge Irlandês que viajou através da Escócia espalhando o cristianismo durante o século XVIII. Em 2009 a Macallan é considerada a terçeira melhor destilaria do Mundo apenas precedida pela Glenfiddich e Glenlivet e a segunda maior em termos de valor de vendas. Tradicionalmente todos os Macallan era amadurecidos em cascos de xerez, em 2004 a variadade foi alargada para incluir por exemplo cascos de burbon.

After almost 200 years of production Macallan had secured a reputation of excellence product based on secular traditions and methods.
In 2009 Macallan was considered the third best distillery in the world right behind Glenfiddich e Glenlive and the second largest in terms of sales value. Traditionally all Macallan's were matured in xeres oak casks, from 2004 on other oaks have been added to the product line out, for example, burbon oaks casks.
